Day 3 of the OurCraves 7-Days to Deeper Self Love Challenge involves opting for healthier snacks.
Whether you’re a snack kind of person or not, there inevitably comes a time between meals; when you’re rushing to meet deadlines; while cooking; or when you suddenly feel like you’re running on empty, that you just need something to tide you over. When you’re working at a desk all day, it’s easy to pop to the nearby café or vending machine and grab whatever is available. But today we’ll talk about how to do things a bit better.
You may wonder how choosing healthier snacks is an exercise in self love. Well, when you eat and drink better, your digestive system works better, you feel better, and you even look better (hello, clearer skin). Sugary, heavily processed, and greasy snacks may satisfy the palette for a little while, but you end up feeling all sorts of ways you could’ve avoided. Whether your goal is to lose weight or to be healthier, (and we can ALL improve on the latter), opting for leaner, healthier snacks means that you’ll get closer to achieving that goal.
While there are lots of tips to be shared about planning ahead, and recipes I’ll share in the coming weeks, I wanted to keep it as simple and accessible as possible today. Remember, small, incremental, and sustainable changes are what leads to success.
Listed are some suggestions for nearly-prep-free, healthier snacking:
- A bowl of chopped up, seasonal fruit
- Banana or apple slices with peanut butter
- Veggie sticks (carrots and cucumber) with hummus
- Raw nuts
- Trail mix
- Dried fruit
- Popcorn (air popped if possible, with less salt)
- Dates stuffed with nuts or nut butter
- Wholegrain toast – no butter – with smashed avocado
