Our Delicious, Leaner, Apple Crumble

  1. Preheat your oven to 150°C. Peel, wash, core and slice the apples into desired width and shape. We like wedges.
  2. Place apple pieces into a medium-sized pot and bring to the boil for about 5 minutes* or more. (See notes below).
  3. To assemble the crumble, place all dry ingredients into a medium-sized bowl.
  4. Place maple syrup, coconut oil, and vanilla essence in a small, separate bowl, and stir to combine.
  5. Pour wet ingredients into the dry mixture, and work through with a fork until well combined. They mixture should be clumping together a bit, to form a crumble. Set aside.
  6. Strain apples completely, and add sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Toss to combine.
  7. To assemble: place apples into a medium-sized dish, and spread evenly. Then pack the crumble mixture so it forms a firm, even layer.
  8. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Serve immediately, as is, or with ice cream or coconut cream.
Recipe Notes

*5 minutes yields a cooked yet firm texture, so boil for longer if you prefer your apples completely soft. Prepare the crumble in the meantime.
